In my now semiâ€"weekly hunt for a column topic, I went through my usual process. I looked at what had happened recently at work. at home and in my community. ] tried to recall what I had learned and what new bits of information [ had managed to pick up. 1 asked my wife for ideas as she put down a library book, and then an idea began to spark. With the rate of technolâ€" ogy change, it can be a chore to keep on top of new develâ€" opments. But this is a chore that can have many beneâ€" fits. New ideas are often born when you apply a new technology to your cutrent problem. Staying in the loop can lead to purchases that can save you money or make your business run more efficiently. You need to read up on these changes. I try to make it a point to read a few Web sites to keep current. One of my regularly skimmed sites, although somewhat on the eclectic side, is Slashdot.org. This site, self proclaimed as "News for Nerds. Stuff that Matters®" was started by a couple of "geeks" in 1997 and is still going strong. If you can stand a little bit of conspiracy theory and the occasional Microsoft bashing reader‘s comment interspersed with your techâ€" nology news, then this site is worth a look. One important site to visit is your operating sysâ€" tem vendor‘s security pages. For Microsoft operating systems, visit http://www.micrasoft.com/ security/ to find their recâ€" ommended security settings and practices. For Appleâ€" based systems, try http://www.apple.com/supâ€" port/security/. And for the brave _ at â€" heart, _ try http://www.incidents.org/ for the latest security threats and happenings. If you are in the informaâ€" tion technology business or finding yourself running a small network at home or your office, you will likely be familiar with the incredible array of technology magaâ€" zines available at your nearâ€" est bookstore. Some of these may be worth a look, others not likely worth the paper they are printed on You can always purchase a few copies before subscribing. Read before you surf InformationWeek and Information Security Magaâ€" zine are a couple publicaâ€" tions that provide subscripâ€" tions and websites for your reading pleasure. If you subâ€" scribe to these periodicals online, be sure to read the options closely. nology magazines that you can subscribe to for no charge. You will need to provide your eâ€"mail address, and then companies are sure to be sending advertisement messages your way unless you "opt out" with the propâ€" 2004 Chevy . | * 1.8. The feeds come in a variety of formats including RDE. RSS and others, with no clear standard. I use a reader for my handheld, called "Plucker" that works with my PC and handheld to keep the latest stories availâ€" able for reading whenever 1 get a spare moment. As well as technology news, other services such as CBC, CTV, and other news networks also supply content availâ€" able in these formats. And last but not least, I‘ve found it enjoyable to read some biographies of people that have helped shape the Internet and other technology directions. It‘s always interesting to see how people have overâ€" come their struggles to creâ€" ate something new. A trip to your local library can find you exploring the history of the open source movement. So, stay in the loop and read! ies 2e 1434 11349 119.495° * B way power difver seat * Cruise conirol * Keyiess eniry * Prwer dor looss * Prwer windows * Ar condiioning ® Heated power merors * Tit steemng * 2 51 engine * Auto Iransmssnn * Leather wrapoed steenng wheel * 15" Aloy wheels * AM/SM steran with 2 & MP3 alaver > Sifhick # 20217 * $0 Down * OVD player + Front & rear air conditfoning * / passenge seatra * Deap hinted glass * Remote keyiess antry * Prwer lncks. windows & marnrs ® ARS * it steemng * Cruse control « Â¥6 engine * Autnmatic fransmesion * Sieenng wheet sprimis * AMAM stereo with CD plaver = Rear audia controls > Siockc # 50044 Great deals on cars. 1364 1281798 RaaUm | 1398 +26.998° * Dual zone Air conditioning « Cruise control * Heated power mirrars * «: steenng * 96 Engine * Auto Iransmission * Power door locks * Power uandows » eennq wheel anntrais * 60(40 spit hortt nench seaat @ Keviess entry « AMAI M sternc with 55 pleyer > Stock ir 40CAT * $0 Down « V6 engine + Mulâ€"Flew 2nd row seat + 16" aluminum whools « Adinmatc rarsmession * As conditoning * Fag famps * Dva power mtrs * Tit Steenng * Cruse contiol « Prwer dhor nds * 2rwer windows * Keviess entry * £ speaer AM PM Steren wth CD pleyer * : Muth Sunction cargo area * Font bucket seats weth cusiom dioth > Sind # 50093 l 1ata 1394 20.995
