The City of Waterloo recognizes the substantial economic, environmental and aesthetic imporâ€" tance of its tree inventory and that the maintenance of trees is necessary to optimize the amount of tree cover on public lands. Proper pruning techniques and removal procedures will contribute to the overall aesthetic appearance and health of urban trees. Over the next few weeks, the City of Waterloo Forestry Operations will be systematically pruning boulevard trees in order to mainâ€" tain the standards set out below. Clearance Standards The lowest branch extending over public sidewalks must be no less than 2.75 meters (8 feet) in branch reaching over a roadway must have no less than 3.7 meters (14 feet) in vertical alignment. The lowest clearance as measured at the curbline. Trails and walkways must have approximately 3 meters vertical clearance and 30.5cm beyond each edge of the trail or path. Twoâ€"way bike paths should have 30 meters of side clearance. _Cit;:)?a/alerloo Arborists prune to: _ achieve clearance standards train young trees to grow healthy, which reduces the need for pruning later on eliminate hazardous situations remove limbs that will affect the overall health of a tree (dead, weak or diseased branches, crowded or rubbing limbs). (The procedures for pruning public trees follows those standards set by the International Society of Arboricultural and all work is performed by or supervised by certified Arborists.) Trees may appear "overâ€"pruned" for a short time afterwards. This is typical of street tree elevating procedures. Thankâ€"you for your understanding. The following highlighted areas will be the focus for this year‘s maintenance of clearance standards. /’\ !\\\ THE CITY OF EEJ Waterloo Location: Rim Park, 2001 University Ave., Waterloo Learn how to transform your photos into a beautiful memory album #1.
