The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony presents a bone-chilling program of classical music for two nights at the Centre in the Square this Friday and Sat- urday night that is sure to entertain. Billed as "Fright Night." the concerts mark principal conductor Martin Fischer- Dieskau's inaugural Pops show for the KWS. and he enjoyed organizing this unique program. "You can say lots of things about 'Fright Night' and that it's a Tops' concert and everything else, but the music has to be good so that people enjoy it. "Well. I think the most Important part of a concert. after all. Is the music." he said. "My selection comes from what I think is enjoy- able music but still has to do with the theme that shocks and frightens us. "lt all has something to do with the cruelty expressed by the com- posers in their music. It was also selected based on the musical content so that people can enjoy it." Indeed, Fischer-Dieskau has provided an eclectic blend of obscure pieces along with popular favourites: pieces such as Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette" and Mus- sorogsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" share a program with music from Alfred Hitchcock films, "Psycho" and "Dial M for Murder" as well as theme music from "The Addams Family." "The Thvilight Zone," and "laws" among others.
