Volunteers needed to help with Terry Fox Run Alzheimer Society needs volunteer companions The City of Waterloo is currently looking to fill three volunteer opportunities this month. The 22nd annual Terry Fox Run needs helpers on Sept. 14. This event held to commemorate the Canadiâ€" an icon Fox‘s "Unbreakable Spirit" and raises money for cancer research. Volunteers aged 16 and up are need to assist with registration, cheering on participants along the route and setting The Alzheimer Society of Kitchenerâ€"Waterioo is in need of volunteers who are willing to visit a person with Alzheimer disease or a relatâ€" ed dementia for one to four hours per week. Through the Alzheimer Volunteer Companion proâ€" gram _ volunteers _ are matched with a person who has dementia and is living with a caregiver. The visits are an opporâ€" tunity for the person who has the disease to develop a friendship with a caring and compassionate person from the community. The visits also provide an opportunity for the caregivâ€" er to receive a muchâ€"needed break.
