Presenâ€" tation of the awards will be held at the Centre for Research and Education in Human Services (73 King St. W., Suite 202 in downtown Kitchener) on Oct. 2. The Helmut Braun Memorial Award conâ€" tributes to the cost of post secondary education for a student pursuing studies in 1) social justice, peace and conflict resolution, 2) comâ€" munity development, 3) crossâ€"cultural issues, or 4) community research and social change. Awards are given annually to one or two students in need of financial assistance through an open competition. Each award ranges between $1,000â€" The Helmut Braun Memorial Fund was estabâ€" lished in 2001 in memory of Helmut Braun, a local social activist, community researcher and an advocate for the rights of people with mental health and other life struggles. The fund is administered by the Mennonite Foundaâ€" tion of Canada. Donations for the fund are gratefully received to ensure ongoing presentaâ€" tion of awards. The Centre for Research and Education is a nonâ€" profit organization and a leader in innovative comâ€" munityâ€"based research on pressing social issues localâ€" ly, provincially and nationâ€" ally. Waterloo Region Self Help is a consumer/survivor driven organization supâ€" porting people with mental health struggles.
