On a sunny summer afternoon Marilyn and I paid an unscheduled visit to see a Mennonite friend in her hou‘se trailer which is attached to the house and the dodie house. This lady already had three visitors, but we felt welcome to chat with these local Mennonite women. These guests lived just a few miles down the road, very near to the site of the painting that I feature this week. Since I was most enthuâ€" siastic about the beauty of this spot on a blind line, I asked if they knew the place where the road dwindled into a track and then into a field. They shook their heads. Although less than a quarter of a mile away from their house, they had never ventured _ down _ this sideroad. 1 shouldn‘t be too surprised as this road leads nowhere, and 1 only discovâ€" ered this spot this spring. When I saw this view, I thought of the movie, "Two for the Road". Set in rural France, it contains scenes that we have visited where the plane trees join hands high above the road. That film certainly adds, in my imagination, to the charm of this quiet location right on the border where Menâ€" nonite country meets Amish country. I wanted to describe this lane to them using that flick as an examâ€" Romantic Blind Line The following is part of an ongoing series of pieces by local artist Peter Etril Snyder. In the series, Peter will describe for us some of the works he has created. PETER ETRIL SNYDER I find it interesting that how much I see becomes instantly compared or conâ€" trasted in my mind with places that I have visited, paintings that I remember, or photos that I have seen on TV and in magazines. l realize what a large file of collective consciousness I carry with me at all times. We all have individual collections of both personal and public informaâ€" tion in our minds, and as an ple, but of course they had not seen that film, or any IRLEEUICT artist, I must somehow tap into that area. I have never sold a painting to a person that does not in some way relate to it through their past Tune to FM 98.5 Friday at 8:15 a.m. for a discussion about this piece with the artist himself. Peter Etril Snyder is a lifeâ€"long resident of Waterloo who operates a gallery at 59 Erb. St. E. in Waterloo.
