Habitat building project manager David Fair materiâ€" als manager and Greg Clark estimate over $2,000 worth of power tools were stolen from the secured onâ€"site shed where the tools are normally stored. During the early morning hours of July 25, the site of the newest Habitat building project in the Region was the victim of neighbourâ€" hood theft. â€" Included in the long list of missing equipment were the circular saws, a highâ€" powered nail gun, several Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region executive director Pat McLean comâ€" mented that, "We are sorry that this has happened. It always amazes me that peoâ€" ple will steal from a charitaâ€" ble organization such as Habitat." cordless drills and many more valuable and essential power tools. As well, over two dozen hand tools were lifted from the shed. Fortunately, the tools were located by police late Friday evening and many of them were returned. In the meantime, many people from the community conâ€" tacted the Habitat office to offer their support both verâ€" bally and financially. A Habitat thanked Brad Swanson of Swanson Home Building Centre and the members of the Kitchenerâ€" Westmount Rotary Club for their donations of $500 each to cover the cost of the stolen tools. Swanson arranged for both donations and providâ€" ed the new tools at a reduced price. Habitat officials were overwhelmed by the supâ€" port of the community in response to a vision of helpâ€" ing lowâ€"income families in the Waterloo Region. Habiâ€" tat for Humanity Waterloo Region, is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canaâ€" da, and is part of the global Habitat organization, which has built over 150,008 housâ€" es in 87 countries of the world. The Waterloo Region affiliate started in 1989, and has built 46 houses to date. It has plans to construct seven new homes in the Region this summer.
