Waterloo library hosts woodcarving exhibit by Peter Findlay The following is part of an ongoing series of pieces by local artist Peter Etril Snyder. In the series. Peter will describe for us some of the works he has created. Being a lazy person, I must discipline myself to get out of the car and walk the land that I think has painting potential. Although farmers often find my request to explore and photograph their land rather odd, 1 think secretly q s part of Waterloo egion‘s "One Book, One Community" celebraâ€" tions, the Waterloo public library is hosting a carving demonstration, as well as exhibits, by local carving expert Peter Findlay. Findlay will demonstrate different whittling and caryâ€" ing techniques at the library June 21 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. His carving work is currently on display in the atrium of the library, and highlights this year‘s "One Book, One Communiâ€" ty" reading choice, "The Stone Carvers" by Jane Urquhart. Findlay‘s demonâ€" stration on Saturday will interpret carving as it forms part of the story in "The Stone Carvers" Findlay is currently a facâ€" ulty member at Conestoga College in the School of Technology (woodworking) He has won awards at the International Woodcarving Exhibition in Toronto, and in 1995 was the folk artistâ€" inâ€"residence at the Joseph Schneider Haus in Kitchenâ€" No registration is necesâ€" sary for the demonstration on carving techniques. and there will be games and puzzles for all ages to celeâ€" brate "One Book, One Comâ€" munity" and the carving theme A Quiet Spring Stream PETER ETRIL SNYDER I have never been refused access to a farm, but 1 have been warned about young cattle that might take exception to someone strolling across their pasâ€" ture. 1 discovered this restful beauty spot on the back forty of a farm in the Elora area. Although much of my work has a peaceful outlook, this painting, more than most, is totally quiet. All artists change over the years their approach, not only to technique but also to the selection of subâ€" jects. they are also flattered I could have included some farm animals or wild animals in this acrylic, but 1 decided to let the landscape speak for itself. Although I still paint works with human and aniâ€" mal activities, I seem to be producing more paintings of pure landscape. 1 said in one of my books that in my next life I thought that I would paint only landscape. Perhaps my next life has arrived without my noticing. www retirement!ifecommunities.com Special events and socials One bedroom apartments with balconies Flexible meal and housekeeping packages Nursing Services to find out more The Palisades Retirement Residence 64 Benton Street.
