"How Mennonite I've been in my approach to this piece of dramatic scenery." I say this because I had painted in this area with a group of Quebec painters, and in this same bit of scenery. they saw dramatic technicolour. These French painters had never met a colour that they didn't like. My approach was much too conservative. I decided, just recently, to return to this work and add more contrast and more colour. Although returning to a "finished" piece of work is uncommon for me, there bec scenery puts me in mind of places on the north coast of Cornwall in Eng- land where I have painted several times Rendering the texture of the rocky shore against the liquid forms of the sea was a good chal- lenge, which I enjoyed.
