The position flies in the face of the wishes of many university students, who would like to see the MDS limit repealed in some areas of the city to allow for more student housing. Brenda Koprowski, presiâ€" dent of the Federation of Students at the University of Waterloo, said additional housing is critical in dealing with the influx of students expected through the douâ€" ble cohort this fall. That‘s why the attitude of some residents who favour a moratorium on future housing developâ€" ment is unreasonable, she "I would really like the city to survey residents, possibly through a web poll, to get an overall perspective on how most people feel toward students and lodgâ€" ing houses," she said. "I get the feeling we‘re hearing from the same people all the time. "The arguments we‘ve heard so far from some resiâ€" dents aren‘t that beneficial. If things are that out of conâ€" trol with lodging houses, we‘d know it and we‘d be doing everything we can to {resoive) the problem. "But I think a moratoriâ€" um would be a temporary solution that would only bandâ€"aid the problem. And it would mean that the city is catering to some resiâ€" dents, and that really frusâ€" trates me." Greg Romanick, the city‘s director of development services. said it will be a challenge to satisfy everyâ€" one‘s concerns through the lodging house study. But he said the city is prepared to listen to all sides, and identify a variety of options that could be used in reviewing and assessing the issues. "In an ideal world, we‘d have a series of options to satisfy everyone," he said. The workshop will take place from 7â€"9 p.m. in the Hauser Haus, at the Waterâ€" loo Memorial Recreation Complex. Anyone may attend the workshop, however, regisâ€" tration is required by March 21. To register, call Anneâ€" Marie Phelan at 886â€"1551, or _ eâ€"mail _ aphelan@ city. waterloo.on.ca. "But it‘s still a little early to know whether we can do that "It‘s a tough issue, but we‘ll give it a try." The proposed terms of reference will be presented to city council for approval during the April 7 council meeting.
