This was a day of surprisâ€" es for me as I used a digital camera for the first time. The day was gray and unwelcoming, but 1 found to my delight when 1 printâ€" ed those photos, I could produce a more receptive environment than the one I enjoyed a midâ€"morning walk along the high west bank of the Grand River which provided a dramatic view of muted colours and shapes of the watercourse below. I had hoped to see the Pioneer Tower in the distance, but 1 found that I was too far away to see that cobblestone landmark. An Italian painter, Canaletto, developed a highly realistic style that was eagerly colâ€" lected by English aristocrats on the Grand Tour. I am in no way bound by any rules in my painting and when I do a painting demonstration, my lack of textbook technique horrifies the amateur painters who have read all the books that state do‘s and don‘t‘s as if they came from the lips of that 1 had actually experi enced.
