Today. as current direc- tors Judith Bean and Car- olyn Neumann prepare their three-dozen choristers for the lMCC's 3tith annual Christmas concert - Sun- day afternoon (Dec, l) at Kitchener Mennonite Brethren Church -- this lat- est generation of a close- knit choral family still upholds its founding philos- ophy: “lo give children a chance to be trained in singing and to learn to read music. using repertoire from our Christian her- itagef Over the years, lMCC choristers have excelled in local and national music competitions, been featured in numerous community and regional cultural events, performed with major sym- phony orchestras, toured the country, and made recordings - including their latest CD "We Are The Children," which is expect- ed to be available ($20 each) at Sunday's concert. What impresses parents like Laurie Castello most, however. is how often the choir attracts youngsters with no adult persuasion needed. "Our children begged to be allowed to sing in this choir after attending a couple of performances when they were younger," she said. In fact, the IMCC has made it a tradition to plan child- and family-friendly concerts that pack a wide range of selections demon- strating many moods and styles of singing into just over an hour.
