The City of Waterloo Fire Department is conducting scheduled maintenance of fire hydrants. This on going program is designed to ensure that the hydrants will operate properly when needed. This year‘s program will involve all hydrants in the city and should be completed by the end of November. This maintenance program is quite routine, however, it may cause some temporary inconveniences such as poor water pressure and in some cases coloured water. If coloured water is detected, please open a cold water tap and allow the water to run until it clears. This is a temporary situation. The City of Waterloo Utility staff and the City of Waterloo Fire Department thank you for your coâ€"operation and understanding. If you must drive your child/children to school, please take notice of any No Stopping" zones in the school area. These zones are estabâ€" lished for the safety of all children attending your school and prohibit a vehicle from stopping for any purpose, including discharging or picking up passengers (school children). These signs are intended to protect children on their way to and from school. They eliminate the possibility of having to cross in front of, behind or between vehicles that create a visibility hazard for both the pedestrian and motorist. The Waterloo Regional Police Service and the City of Waterloo Byâ€"law Enforcement Officers will be strictly enforcing these byâ€"laws. Under the City of Waterloo Traffic Byâ€"law #83â€"19, vehicles found parked in desigâ€" nated "No Stopping" areas are ticketed. On March 18, 2002 the Council for the Corporation of the City of Waterloo approved the increase in the set fine amount for this violation from $18.00 to $40.00.
