The following is part of an ongoing series of pieces by local artist Peter Etril Snyder. In the series, Peter will describe for us some of the works he has created. This composition disâ€" plays the multiple activities that occur in the yard of a Mennonite family. I was amused by the miniature farm wagon in the foreâ€" ground in contrast to the real thing only 30 feet away, awaiting its work at the start of threshing. Note the oldâ€" fashioned threshing machâ€" ine that is still the standard on Mennonite farms. Every society seems to condition children for their adult life through the use of toy verâ€" sions of the realâ€"life model. In some very strict Amish PEVCR ETRIL SNYDER families, the children‘s toys are very crude wooden and fabric pieces. A realistic verâ€" sion of an animal or person is discouraged for two basic reasons. Too frivolous is one reason given, while the other, based on the Biblical idea from the Ten Commandâ€" ments of not making any likeness, is assiduously enforced. This painting from our current Mennonite Life Design show featured at Club Abstract The intercity design collecâ€" tive Fox Force Five presents the design and art show Red Vodka Dreams, Sept. 25 at Club Abstract. Come and see the outrageous comedy everyone is talking about. Laugh for laugh, it‘s the most fun you will ever have in the theatre! Shear Madness The Hilarious & Wacky Whodunit September 4 to December 22 1 &A C 0O B S exhibit shows a Mennonite yard where the rules are more relaxed on that point, but do kick in on other equally obscure issues.
