Continued from page 19 Designated Mourner challenging role for veteran actor Ted Phythian Miller â€"I think Miller is a great playwright. Wallace Shawn is extremely poetic, and that might be a funny thing to say, because he seems to be scomâ€" ing poetry all the time. But his lines to me are very poetic. It‘s almost absurd. "But you have to realize that I am not directing this one, I‘m the actor. So I‘ll intelâ€" lectualize on this particular show after the show is over. Right now, I‘m Jack and Jack has one way of feeling about things. He has one way of feelâ€" ing about Howard that the audience may not be required to feel. He feels something about Judy that maybe the audience is not required to feel. I don‘t care. I‘m Jack. The Isinglass vision is comâ€" pletely different from Mike Nicols‘ Designated Mourner movie, or the Tarragon‘s proâ€" duction. Lighting has such a crucial role â€" it can be considered a silent character in the show. Jack, Judy (Katharine Mills) and Howard ({Scott Crockard) all have their separate areas on stage, yet they seldom interact. Despite a passionate bond with her father Howard, the cultural ‘highbrow‘ Judy is drawn into Jack‘s often quesâ€" tionable ‘lowbrow‘ cultural _ Does The Designated Phythian have a favourite part of the show? "I don‘t think so. There are little phrases that are very funny, or they are relating to something that Jack said earliâ€" er, and he is contradicting himself. It would be difficult to pinpoint all this stuff, and say, ‘I like this, this and this.‘ I like the whole play. I am constantly learning about Jack contradictâ€" ing himself. I like Jack becâ€" ause he has a lot of attitudes that I can certainly relate to. 1 mean, I‘m an f actor, I‘m not Jack.
