Waterloo Mayor Lynne Woolstencroft felt comments made by Coun. Morty Taylor, sugâ€" gesting the city paid off Ford by agreeing to a settlement of just over $44,000, were out of order, and threatened to have Taylor escorted from the council chambers. "I feel this bylaw is deceptive, and it flies in the face of our recent commitment to openâ€" ness and frankness," Taylor said before voting against the settlement. "It‘deals with a buyâ€"out/payâ€"off." Woolstencroft said Taylor‘s comments ran the risk of touching on personnel and legal matters, which are not considered public inforâ€" mation. "A settlement has been reached with Mr. Ford to bring this separation into effect withâ€" out litigation," Woolstencroft said. "We‘ve worked hard to have a negotiated agreement between Mr. Ford and council. _ _ "And we are not being held hostage by someone trying to gain notoriety as a white knight championing for openness." _ Despite objections from Taylor, as well as Coun. Brent Needham, council passed the WATERLOO CHRONICLE By AnoreA Baney Chronicle Staff Continued on page 2 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 2002 «+ WATERLOO, ONTARIO Waterloo firefighters joined kids from the Waterloo region chapter of the Lung Association for a special tugâ€"ofâ€"war with one of the department‘s fire trucks to kick off the Pull for Kids fundraiser last week.
