The Bandaged One -- aka Nash the Slash - is coming to the Registry Theatre in Kitchener Feb. 2 to bleed his electronic elixir through two of the most influential works in film histo- ry - Nosferatu and Un Chien Andalou. Nosferatu was the first vampire film ever made. Directed by EW. (we-$1451.”? interpretation of Bram Stoket‘s Dracula still hailed by critics today as a masterpiece - a stark and shocking bench- mark for all vampire cinema. Nash the Sash, who loves silent film classits. decided to compose his own splendid "ekctro-dassical" music score for Nosferatrx a fitting tribute to Memau. The score is per- formed with hauntignly beau- tiful sounds of mandolin and electric violins The swathed composer has skillfully meshed interpretations of Faure's Requiem and Saint Saen's Dance Macabre. tttUM "00ttTt PROGRRH Nash's Nosferatu made its omcial debut at The Grand TheatreTorottto in July 2000to critiml acclaim. He has since been touring the Show. which sold out at The Bloor Cinema last year. When he visited K-W's Registry Theatre last month. Nashwalked around forafew minutes, carefully surveying thestage, the placement of the film screen and his instru» ments, configuring the show inhismind's eye. "I think _ Nash and Nosfexatu have finally found a home in Kitchener." he said. Nash was so delighted with The Registry Theatre space, that he has added another lit- tie tidbit to the program, Luis Bunuel's Un Chien Andalou. the first score he ever wrote. "This movie still shocks and revulses today," he said. "Yet it is poignant. Un Chien Andalou is the quintessential art film for the filmmaking novice. In fact, I think today's experimental student film projects have a tendency to be over-produced. For sheer fear honor element, Andalou has stood the test of time. because it is graphimlly explicit. I think audiences today have the same reaction to it as they had in 1929, when [ms Bunuel and Salvador Dali first released it. These guys were young film students in their 20s. One night they were sitting around drinking some wine and they began to talk about their dreams, andthisfihttisaresuit of that. " Nash the Slash is an avid film buff, and one day could easily host WO's Saturday Night at the Movies. Move over Elvy. In the meantime, Nash is busy with this tour and Cut Throat Records, his own label, which has remastered all the early FM and Nash solo works, to his growing worldwide fan- base's delight. Nash and Nosferatu will be in K-W for one night only Feb 2. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Advance tickets are available at X-Disc-C Music in Kitchener.
