It‘s been almost six years since Dianne premiered at the Princess Cinema in Waterloo to a curious audiâ€" ence and a number of camâ€" era crews from CKCOâ€"TV. But the question where to start? Once the ideas started flowing, he noticed one thought _ kept _ running through his mind. "Everybody‘s had a first love," said the Waterloo resiâ€" dent and coâ€"owner of Eyelight Creative Marketing Services. At that mor found his premise. Based, in his words, loosely on his own life, Repke created Dianne, a story about first love, a first kiss and what became of it 10 years later. Local filmmaker helps raise funds for Waterloo Optimist Club Since then Repke said CKCOâ€"TV has screened the film many times, as has CFECFâ€"TV in Montreal. Nominated for the Golden Sheaf Award for Best Picture at the 1996 Yorkton Film Festival, the story is based on the character David who, as a 12â€"yearâ€"old, promised young Dianne that even though her family wouldn‘t be returning to Georgian Bay from Quebec ‘Dianne‘ returns The Waterloo Region District School Board invites parents of children born in 1997 and 1998 to register their child(ren) for junior kindergarten and senior kindergarten classes to begin in September, 2002. Ron Repke (second from right) sets up a shot during the making of Dianne, an awardâ€" winning drama shot in Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo. The film returns to the Princess Cinema Jan. 24. At the urging of his best friend Steve, the two travel to northern Quebec for a day of skiing, and a chance to find Dianne again. "It‘s a small film, 48 minâ€" utes long," Repke said. "I‘d say it‘s 90210 meets the Wonder Years. "Families, kids and adults have all enjoyed it. It‘s a sweet little film." Now, Repke is hoping to ARTS FOCUS tie that sweet little film into one of his current projects â€" his membership in the Waterloo West Optimist Club. "I don‘t usually join clubs," he said. "But the Optimist Club supports the youth of our neighbourâ€" hoods, which 1 think is a great thing." â€" Repke said the club has many plans in the works, including to build a new skating rink on Waterloo‘s west side. But, he said, every plan takes money, and that‘s something the relatively new club is lacking.
