'I‘\e Kâ€"W Silver Stars theâ€" atre group is on the air with its lates.production _ "The Big Broadcast of 1943" is an original radio play written and directed by Ron Eagle and Gary Amos, under the stage management of Sandy Weiler. It is presented to a "live" audience just the way shows were in the good old days of radio. Remember those singing commercialsâ€" often as not sung by singers and groups who would later become top recording stars of their dayâ€"revived for this show by music director Rosemary Flanagan. Then there was the "News" read by people whose names were equally worldâ€"reowned. And what about those dramatic radio serials that were the precurâ€" sors of today‘s TV soaps, sitâ€" coms and science fiction shows. This show has it all including some of the songs that lifted our spirits during the war years along with the dancing that was the equivaâ€" lent of the Hip Hop dancing popular today. The year 1943 was of course also part of the great Swing Era that brought us such great big band music. One of the most imporâ€" tant crew members in the original radio broadcasts was the soundman. He was the one responsible for all those sound effects that helped make the shows more realisâ€" tic in the minds of the listenâ€" Cover all the bases with an ad in the Waterioo Chronicle, call 886â€"2830 ers. The Kâ€"W Silver Stars is composed of a group of actors, singers and dancers who have annually for four years produced a show that has entertained and uplifted people‘s hearts. Just to list a few past performancesâ€" "Dinner Cabaret" in 2000 directed by Enid Maize, "Lest We Forget" personal recollecâ€" tions of the cast members directed by Peter Mansell in 1999 and "Those were the days" in 1998, a collage of stories about the Kâ€"W region itself, written and directed by Herb Johnson. Johnson originally started the group in 1990 as the Over the Hill Productions after he came to the Kâ€"W area from Sault Ste. Marie where he both acted and produced for some 18 years. After six years, the group evolved into the Kâ€" W Silver Stars and under this name has been going strong ever since. This year‘s show is no exception to the group‘s traâ€" dition of providing great entertainment value at a reaâ€" sonable cost and is guaranâ€" teed to make you want to be a part of the fun of being present Continued on page 23 ginG0 gInG?
