"In Canadian football 1 think overall team speed is a large _ intangible," _ said Triantafilou. "It corrects misâ€" takes, and gives you the ability to run people down, or even run away from people if there are poor blocks in front of you. "Overall this is the fastest team we‘ve ever had here." The team should also be bolstered by a veteran defence that returns most of its defenâ€" sive backfield, including bigâ€" play man Mike Laporte, corâ€" ner Matt McKnight, and hardâ€" hitters Chris Waymouth and local product John Sullivan. The linebacking corps will be anchored by Bluevale grad Chris Wolf who may be joined by another local grad, St. David‘s Paul Kowalik, who also had an outstanding camp. * de ta maternelle a la 13° * 38 écoles élémentaires et 8 écoles secondaires * +11 800 éléeves * éducation de qualité dans un milieu francophone et catholique * transport scolaire gratuit Demandes d‘admission Reégion de Waterloo Cardinalâ€"Léger * 345, The Country Way Kitchener (519) 742â€"2261 Saintâ€"Noélâ€"Chabanel 640, promenade Trico Cambridge (519) 650â€"3219 Ecole secondaire Péreâ€"Renéâ€"deâ€"Galinée adresse permanente 450, rue Maple Grove Cambridge (519) 650â€"9444 1â€"800â€"274â€"3764 poste 3150 wwws.csdccs.edu.on.ca a Fécole la plus prés ou au Conseil "There‘s a couple of pieces there to play with," said While the Warriors tradiâ€" tionally count a Yates Cup win as an annual goal, Triantafilou said with the expanded 10â€" team league and the new playâ€" off format, he would be happy if they just stayed healthy. "It used to be to go to the Vanier Cup you had to play 12 games," said Triantafilou. "Now just to get out of the OUA conference you have to play 12 games. "It‘s going to require more depth and working with the number twos and threes. The roster against Laurier may not be the same roster in the Yates cup this year." That list of departed veterâ€" ans reads like a who‘s who list of former conference allâ€"stars and former allâ€"Canadians. But where some coaches see holes, Golden Hawks head coach Rick Zmich sees an opportunity for players to step up, with seven new starters on offence and five new starters on defence. With three consecutive strong recruiting classes the talent is there to fill the holes, it‘s just a matter of how they ence, Zmich thinks his team will be better in week eight then they are in week one. A lot of that improvement will rest on the shoulders of rookie â€" quarterback â€" Ryan Pyear, the club‘s brightest recruit, who looks like the favourite to replace the departed Lane. Zmich promises to take the pressure off the firstâ€"year pivot by emphasizing a ballâ€"control offence that will save wear and tear on both his young quarâ€" terback and his young defence. "We‘ve got five or six backs that we like including Alex Torrie and Marvin Williams," said Zmich. "That bodes well because for obvious reasons we‘ll be runâ€"oriented this year." Zmich said it is a ballâ€"conâ€" trol offence by necessity with most of his bigâ€"play threats, like Talbot and Praamsma, lost to graduation. "We‘re going to play more of a manageable offence," said Zmich. "We don‘t want to force the young guy (Pyear) to throw more often than not, and give up turnovers." The strength of the Hawks should be their defence this year, even though they lost veteran _ defensive _ ends Millington and Schwab, and Johnson and Johnson on the corners. But the linebacking core, headed by Rohan Thompson, is intact. And the bigâ€"play capability of the Hawks secondary is still available with the return of David Agro and the team‘s defensive quarterback, rover Kevin Taylor. The Hawks are also hoping for some bigâ€"play ability from WCI grad lan "Laser" Logan, who is vying for a cornerback slot while remaining the favourite to return kicks for the Hawks with his blazing 4.4 speed. "We know his reputation as a return specialist," said Zmich. "We want to find an opportunity for him to play Also in the running for the important _ place â€" kicking duties is Bluevale grad Ted Ballantyne. He‘s competing against the incumbent, Eddie Becker, for a kicking position. And with a little experiâ€"
