"Our thoughts go out to United Rentals and the ownâ€" ers of the property for their losses in this fire, and we‘re www. mazda.ca thankful that there were no injuries," _ said _ Keren Adderley, chair of the volunâ€" teer committee that orgaâ€" nizes the yearly event on behalf of the Chambers of Commerce _ of _ Greater Kitchener Waterloo and Cambridge. "Losing all of our equipment in this fire is certainly a serious setback at this late stage. But we‘ve worked hard to ensure this year‘s event will be the best ever. With a little help from our communities, we‘re conâ€" fident we can replace the equipment we need in time for the 2001 Chamber Corporate Challenge for Charity on Saturday, Sept. The committee is launâ€" ching an emergency equipâ€" ment drive and is asking area Chamber members, businesses, organizations and individuals for inâ€"kind or financial support to replace the equipment needed for the 2001 event. The committee also requires new warehouse or storage space that can be used durâ€" ing the equipment drive, and into the future. Most of the items on the equipment list are common and inexpensive, such as golf balls, tent pegs, pool noodles, plastic leis, sand shovels, hula hoops, hard hats, swimming caps and tensor bandages, to name just a few. Other things are more unusual (croquet malâ€" lets and wickets, arm splints, institutional mattresses) or were created specifically for certain games. The Chambers of Comâ€" merce of Kitchener and Waterloo _ brought _ the Chamber Corporate Challâ€" enge to Waterloo region in 1984 as an opportunity for Chamber members to proâ€" vide their employees with a day of fun and networking. Participating teams comâ€" pete against one another in a series of creative, unusual and â€" challenging games designed to promote coopâ€" eration, teamâ€"building and friendly rivalry. The Chamber Corporate Challenge became a nonâ€" profit, charitable event six years ago. Participating teams are asked to raise funds for the event and proceeds are donated to the Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation and the Cambridge _ Commâ€"unity Foundation. Teams are also asked to bring nonâ€"perishable food items for the Waterloo Region and Cambridge food banks. _ The _ Chamber Corporate Challenge has donated more than $93,000 over the last five years. A copy of the equipment list can be obtained by callâ€" ing 576â€"5000. Please direct any offers of donations to Ellen Menage at 576â€"5000, ext. 27.
