Centre in the Square announces new season The Centre is looking forâ€" ward to its exciting entertainâ€" ment season, with nine series planned. The seven series from last season â€"Broadway, Comedy, Fantasy, On Stage, Great Canadian Plays, Merrill Lynch Electric Thursdays and Encore â€" will return with the addition of two new series, an Afternoon series and a Family season will feature two awardâ€" winning musicals. Annie Get Your Gun, with score by Irving Berlin and featuring some of the best songs ever written for the stage, will perform at the Centre on March 26. Ragtime, the fourâ€"time Tony Awardâ€" winning musical based on EL Doctorow‘s bestâ€"selling novel, will be performed May 13. The Comedy series will feature three nights of laughter once again this season. On Feb. 9 laidâ€"back variety artists The Flaming Idiots will juggle, conâ€" tort and have everyone in stitches with their particular brand ofhumour. Big Riverâ€" the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, adapted from the novel by Mark Twain and with music and lyrics by Roger Miller will delight everyone on Feb. 20. Carousel Players will present The Hobbit on April 17. Based on the book by J.RR. Tolkien, this performance will enthrall audiences with its tale of trolls, goblins, dwarves and eives. the aisles once more. lhe Centre will announce the surâ€" prise artist in the New Year. _ Stage series is a warm, moving and utterly unique experience. Richard Wood, Prince Edward Island‘s fiddling sensation, will be in concert on Jan. 31. The Susie Arioli Swing Band will have everyone swinging right along with their music from the ‘30s and ‘40s. The Songwriter‘s Circle, on June 6, will once again feature a gathering of gifted musicians who will share their music and words with the audience and one another. With the support of the Canadian Council, four plays will be performed in the Great Canadian Play series. Sibs, written by Diane Flacks and Richard Greenblatt, will be performed on Nov. 6 and Ivanka Chews the Fat!, the latâ€" est hilarious adventure by Joâ€" Ann Waytowich will play on Jan. 15. Blood on the Moon, a play written and performed by Pierre Brault, invites you to sit in on the notorious trial of James Patrick Wheland, who is the 2001â€"2002 season at The Centre in the Square promises something for of the murder of Thomas D‘Arcy McGee, a Father of the Confederation, on April 23. Wingfield‘s Folly, starring Rod Beattie, the conâ€" tinuing _ story _ of _ Walt Wingfield‘s life on the farm will run May 28. Merrill â€" Lynch Electric Thursdays has expanded to four concerts featuring the Jeans ‘n‘ Classics Band and the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Symphony. The concerts for 2001/2002 are: Madmen Across the Water on Nov. 8; All the Young Dudes on Jan.17; Wonderland â€" an Evening with Alan Frew on March 21; and Electric Thursdays‘ Fever â€"A Disco Ball on May 16.
