Today, that improbable club is not only thriving, but enjoymg its 40th anniversary celebrations. Founded in 1961 by a prominent group of commur nity leaders to provide sailing and recreational facthues for members and their families, the non-profit volunteer organization makes its home on a natural cove on lake Conestoga, land leased from the Grand River Conservation Authority 30 km northwest of K-W. With the first commodore at the helm, plans were quickly made to install a 5fr foot dock, "two heads" and a dinghy at the site.
