The organization also believes that a strong cultur al sector assists in the build- ing of a strong business sec- tor. Many local businesses have teamed up with the organization. The Belmont Flower Market, located in the Belmont Village shopping district. was approached by Aggie Beynon, founder and managing partner of Harbinger Gallery in Waterloo, who asked if the shop, owned by Eric Bedard and lolanda Galle, would be interested in participating. This is the first year the shop has participated by providing a floral arrange- ment, suitable for drying, for the campaign. Vincenzo's gourmet deli- catessan has been a sup- porter of the campaign for three years, creating groups of gift baskets. Half of the money raised from the sale of a basket goes to Brush with Art. The store was also approached by Beynon with a goal to start a fundraising partnership. The idea of the gift baskets just evolved, said Carmine Caccioppoli. man- ager of Vincenzo's. Ht gives them some exposure and " gives us some exposure," he said. Vincenzo's provides the baskets but the majority of the selling is actually done by the organization, although customers can phone the store and order baskets, They would, howev, er, have to specify if they wanted a Brush with Art has ken Cook Homes, 3 local company. is one of the pro- gram's biggest supporters. Every new home the compa- ny builds comes with a Brush with Art basket “It's good for us." sand Caccioppoli, "New people to the community can learn about the store and come by It also helps to build up community centres." The fundraising cam- paign has also appointed local painter Ada Hunsberger as volunteer co- ordinator, as the campaign was in need of the position due to the expanding work- load. "Because I was an artist, I said I should come on board and applied and was approved." said Hunsberger. "I get people to help the fundraising." Hunsberger and her hus- band are both artists who decided to stay in the com- munity rather than move elsewhere to foster artistic appreciation. "I really like the position," said Hunsberger. "I'm hop- ing lo keep up the success of the past years" The L.C.B.0. has also come on board, as well as Sobey's food markets by allowing boy scout style can- vassing on Saturdays. Fairview Park Mall has also joined the fundraising effort. Beynon commented, "Brush with Art will become a doable model for other communities that want to encourage growth, co-Oper- ation and communication among their arts organizer Hons.
