" CITY OF WATERLOO â€" 2001 BUDGET DATES Winter can be trying for homeowners & motorists and the City of Waterloo would like to provide the following information: Parks and Works Services staff operate 24 hours a day using 35 pieces of snow removal equipment to keep our streets and sidewalks safe during the winter months. During major snow storms all streets are generally cleared within 15 hours in the following priority: 1) Major arterial roads and Uptown streets 2) Secondary roads, bus routes and high traffic rural roads 3) Local roads The City of Waterloo is divided into 12 plow routes and each of these plow routes is further divided into subâ€"areas A, B and C.With each new snow storm the plow operators are instructed to start in a different subâ€"area. So for the first storm they may start in your area first but the next storm you may be the last on the plow route. The Winter Snow Line 747â€"8600 is active during main snow clearing operaâ€" tions. Shortâ€"term and ultimate (longâ€" e x _1 $1 _ O3 term) improvement needs have been examined, as well as public and agency comments over the course of the project. The Project Team has concluded an initial evaluation process and is in a position to recommend a Preferred Design Concept to Waterloo City Council. Prior to Council review and input, a second and final Public Open House/Information Centre is being held to present the preferred alignment concept to Waterloo residents. The preferred design provides for four traffic lanes plus cycling lanes (on each side of the road). Separate left turn lanes are also proposed on Columbia Street at major intersecting streets, plus adjacent improvements to these roadways, which include Phillip Street, Albert Street, Hazel Street and King Street. Property acquisition, on both sides of Columbia Street and on some intersecting streets, will be required to facilitate the preâ€" ferred concept. * There will be no formal presentation at this second Open House meeting. The City of Waterloo welcomes all those interested to drop by at any time during the hours noted below. We encourage all interested persons to attend the Open House to review and comment on the work completed on the project date, as well as the preferred design for improving transportation operations on Columbia Street. Based on final public and agency comments, as well as the evaluation process associated with determining the best design to meet comâ€" munity needs, final recommendation will be made to the City of Waterloo. All interested members of the public will be notified of the date of the formal Public Meeting presentation to City Council.
