fter an early playoff A:gss last year, the St. avid Celtics are lookâ€" ing for a return to their chamâ€" pionship form that saw them win backâ€"toâ€"back Districtâ€"8 senior girls volleyball titles. And a big part of that return to the championship will be on the shoulders of seniorâ€"setter Marianne Haffner, the key cog of the Celtics‘ offensive machine. â€""It‘s kind of hard because with my club team I don‘t set at all," said Haffner. One part of her game that doesn‘t need any work is the service game, where she conâ€" tinues to be a dominant force. The power of her service game was on display against the _ Monsignor _ Doyle Mustangs last Wednesday on St. David‘s homecourt. Haffner, who is a backâ€" court specialist with her club team the Waterloo Tigers, had to get used to the setter position with the Waterloo squad last year. But she feels that she‘s finally grown into the role with the Celtics, which requires her to set the ball for big hitters on the team like her coâ€"captain â€" Shannon Dietrich. "I‘m working hard on setâ€" ting the ball where they want it," said Haffner. "The pracâ€" tices have really helped, we just need more practice together." Haffner served for eight of her teams 15 points in the fifth and final frame to start the Celtics season off on a winning note in a three sets to two victories.
