Millennium park ready to go What spans 500 acres, includes an 1lâ€"acre nature sanctuary, 1.5 kilometers of trails alongside the Grand River and a stateâ€"ofâ€"theâ€"art recreation facility? Waterloo‘s Millennium Recreation Park. By now, you‘ve probably heard about this exciting community enhancement planned for north Waterloo by the Eastbridge Sports Park, and may be wondering why the city needs a park of this magnitude. The answer is simple. Needs studies conducted by the City of Waterloo and various sports and leisure groups indicate a shortage of recreational amenities amidst a growing population. It was also driâ€" ven by a desire to strengthen the community‘s access to the Grand River and add to the current inventory of environmental lands being preserved in the city. In the nature sanctuary and other naturalized secâ€" tions of the park, visitors can relax, explore and learn. A wide variety of wildlife and waterfowl occupy the park‘s woodlots and watercourses and for the first time ever there‘s public access to this part of the Grand River. Picnickers, cyclists, hikers, and nature lovers will be drawn to the park using a network of 11.5 km of trails including a section of the Walter Bean Grand River Trail. woodlots and watercourses :fi" ut recreanon needs. and for the first time ever Â¥(;:::r m(:fi,a on neegs a there‘s public access to this recrealioE cocn(')nul[:: ?:ill 2+% * t‘ sg. xi of the Cland Rivet open in the fall ofp20()l and 'e * i :e *~ Picnickers, cyclists, hikers, the soccer fields and base * + and nature lovers will be pall diamonds, which 'li * * drawn to the park using a ascommr(r)ldate s.o:rv\el;m% * * ® fi network of 11.5 km of trails . 6 ns "s including a section of the ?ifirll)s igti(liuvsu;stls each year, R(’)'l ‘b B‘lr e Gbl @ Walter Bean Grand River Thee = !é:tezssig:ng' of *J Tral‘kvnh an I8â€"hole golf University Avenue East will r ide vehicle access to the course, multiple playing poa‘ .
