The Neon Electricity girls underâ€"11 soccer team defeated the Blue Moon team 2â€"1 in double overtime to win the league championship at Bechtel Park last weekend. Vanessa Lithgow scored the winner with only seconds left in the game. The girls won five games and tied one on their way to the gold. Brooke Gresko anchored the midfield between Andrea Chong, Caitlin Frieburger, Emma Torbicki and Katrina Comeau. The forward line of Mary Soltysiak, Erin Ross and Natalie Hayes kept offensive pressure on the opposing teams, while the defensive pairing of Alysha Voigt and Kasey Bryant were difficult to beat. Emily Dosman was outstanding in goal. The team was also fortunate to have Amanda Comeau and Kayla Schnarr available from the underâ€"10 league to assist them throughout the sixâ€"game tournament. Giselle Brenner coached the team to victory with motivation and skill. Dennis Dosman contributed as the assistant coach, and the Waterloo Legion sponsored the team.
