In 1996, a homeless person who spent most of his time in the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo, Camâ€" bridge area traveled to St Catharines and happened to experience the "Out Of The Cold" program (OTC) first hand. He was so impressed by the program, he felt it was sorely needed in the area in which he was most familiar. He made it his business to gather information on how and by whom the program ran and gathered phone numbers of the people who were presently operating the OTC in St. Catharines. He made a resource packâ€" age and dropped one off with a minister of as many churches as possible, given his meager resources, in Galt, Preston, Hespeler, Kitchenerâ€" Waterloo, Guelph and Brantâ€" ford. Likewise, a package was taken to the mayors and to the transit managers of these locaâ€" tions, citing that one day the churches would begin an OTC and will seek their help. This is an act of love. In 1998, two churches in Galt and one in Preston began a full program (full is beginâ€" ning on Nov. 1, ending March 31). This is an act of love. Note: Galt, Preston and Hespeler are the cultural cenâ€" ters and Cambridge is the administrative center. Guelph and Brantford, sadly don‘t think there is a need. As of Feb. 6, 2000, Camâ€" bridge programs operate all seven nights with three churches doubling up. It‘s an act of love. Three churches in Waterloo and one in Kitchener are offering a full program in 1999/2000 and it is expected that all seven nights will be covered in 2000/01. These are acts of love. The funds come from donaâ€" tions. There is no glory except the handsâ€"on, firstâ€" hand experience. vet In Waterloo, one church commenced a pilot project on Feb. 5, 1999 to run to the end of the month but continued to the end of March. This too is an act of love The OTC is operated purely by volunteers and no one gets paid a cent. "Out of the Cold" is an act of lave! Taking chocolates to a lady is an act of love! OFFER END MAY 6, 2000 1 am thoroughly disapâ€" pointed in the Chronicle‘s omission of the involvement of Lakeshore Village residents in it‘s reporting of the City of Waterloo council meeting on Monday, March 27, 2000. A portion of the information meeting was about the request by the Grand River Conservaâ€" tion Authority to have the Westmount Road property in the Laurel Creek Conservation Atea rezoned for commercial use, which is of great interest to us. Disappointed in Chronicle‘s omission of Lakeshore residents‘ involvement In both Andrea Bailey‘s frontâ€"page article and the colâ€" umn by the editor, Deborah Crandall, it was implied that The Waterloo Chronicle welcomes letters to the ediâ€" tor.
