The applicants, Meadowbank Investments Limited and Whiteport Investments Inc., request an amendment to the Official Plan and Zoning Byâ€"law to expand the range of uses permitted on the subject lands; more specifically to allow retail stores selling a full range of department store type merchandise (DSTM) including pet food and pet related products. The applicants are investigating the potential for 70,000 square feet of gross leasable area to retail DSTM on the subject lands. A retail analysis has been submitted in conjunction with the application. The applicants have appealed the application to the Ontario Municipal Board under subsections 22(7) and 34(11) of the Planning Act, R.S.0. as amended, from Council‘s refusal or neglect to enact the proposed amendments to permit the expanded range of commercial retail uses, and under subsection 45(12) of the Planning Act, R.S.0. from a decision of the Committee of Adjustment of the City of Waterloo which dismissed an application numbered Aâ€"53/97 for variâ€" ance from the provisions of Byâ€"law No. 1418 for the subject lands. An Ontario Municipal Board hearing has been scheduled for the week of February 7, 2000. Prior to the Ontario Municipal Board hearing, City staff will prepare a report on this matter.
