Last week in the Wateric, Chronicle, we asked readers if they felt there was too much cutâ€" through traffic and too many speeders in Waterloo‘s neighâ€" bourhoods after one group of residents successfully fought to have leftâ€"turn restrictions put in place on their street. Here‘s what some of you had to say: I‘ve had several near misses Living in the adjoining neighbourhood to Blythwood Road, I have witnessed the existung situation. The traffhic from Hazel Street into Blythâ€" wood is a problem, and 1 have had a number of "nearâ€"misses" while out walking my baby as a result of drivers coming fast around the curve from Hazel, Parkdale Plaza side, and tumnâ€" ing right into Blythwood. 1 don‘t see the present turn restrictions as being overly effective, without constant policing to enforce them. Driâ€" vers will risk getting caught as they do not want to take the extra time to enter and exit via Albert Street or alternate routes. The traffic island at Weber Street North is a good idea. 1 believe there may be another answer though. In Australia, 1 saw the extensive use of road bumps and "shikanes"(? spelling) that force drivers to slow down by having to zigzag through traffic islands set close together on opposite sides of the road. This answer though may be too intrusive for the residents of Blythwood Road, but 1 is very effective in the residential neighbourhoods in The problem will only move I‘m one of those folks that regularly uses Blythwood Road to get from Bearinger to Weber Street. 1 always wondered why the people on that street had to put up with a connection between two major arterial roads through their neighbourâ€" Now that the left hand turns are not allowed, let me make a prediction. People will begin to use Tamarack and Milford and soon the people on those streets will be wailing. The fundamental problem rests with the traffic engineerâ€" ing brain trust over at city hall We have two major arteries (Fisher Hallman/Bearinger and Weber) and no convenient way to get between them. The already clogged left turns onto Albert will now become even worse. 1 suggest the Chronicle call the traffic engineering departâ€" ment and ask them how traffic flows got so botched up in that area and what route recomâ€" mendations they might have. I‘m miffed at the signs Speaking as someone who used to make frequent use of the "Blythwood shortcut", I‘m a little annoyed at the new Cathic Martin signs, but 1 can understand why the residents want them there However, l am more than a hitle miffed at the signs themâ€" selves As you approach Blythwood on Hazel, you pass a couple of signs stating the hours, and *School buses excepted" The last sign, on the Blythwaod side, however, has the haurs and then reads "School Buses ACCEPTED®. This ACCEPIED®. This is. no pun intended, unacceptable Patio Furniture Form Your QOutooor Living Pusasure Come See Us .. The amount of traffic looking for a quick way to expedite a tmp is underâ€" standable, but the quality of life and enjoyment of anyone‘s (Continued on page 10) RIVERBOAT SWING SALE _ S AL E. 1â€"s00â€"769â€"4645 « 905 689â€"7676 401 EAST, TAKE HWY.
