Leaves, although bulky when first raked, will compost well in a pile over the winter. Make sure the leaves are moist â€" it also helps to mix in some fruit and vegetable scraps. You won‘t recognize your pile in the spring. Loose and Bagged Leaf Collection â€" October 13th to November 20th on your yard waste collection day. Check your City of Waterloo brochure or call 886â€"2310 for your day. Leaves must be out by 7:00 a.m. on day of pickup. Loose Leaves Please rake leaves to the curb the day before your regular yard waste day. On Regional roads, please rake your leaves onto the boulevard. Make sure there are no stones, branches, brush or hedge clippings in your leaf piles. All of these materials damage our equipment. Please leave storm sewer grates uncovered. * If you have leaves before Thanksgiving, please save them on your property or bring them to the Waterloo Landfill for composting. Do not rake leaves to the curb prior to Thanksgiving! Bagged Leaves and Pumpkins Please use either paper yard waste bags or returnable containers with a ribbon tied to the handle â€" it makes our collection more efficient, Place paper bags, conâ€" tainers and pumpkins out on your yard waste collection day. >]|& Plastic bags will not be accepted Residents are reminded that all Waterloo leaves and yard waste will be compostâ€" ed. Leaves will not be collected in the regular garbage. Mixing leaves in with regâ€" ular garbage will result in regular garbage not being picked up. All leaves, brush and other organic yard waste can also be taken to the Waterloo Landfill at 925 Erb St. W. for composting. Thank you for participating in our composting programs. In 1997 we picked up approximately 2,764 tonnes of leaves.
