Ruedesheimer Gartens, the smokeâ€"free Festhalle operating at the Waterloo Rec Centre by the Rotary Club, is anticipating their best year yet and is promising a great party. The Stadtrat Empfang or Waterloo City Council Recepâ€" tion is being presented again this year at the Gathering Place beside the Glass & Clay Museum, tomotrow from 11:30 a.m. â€"1 p.m. Mayor Joan McKinnon and the Council will be serving free Piller‘s sausage on a bun cooked right before your eyes and the enterâ€" tainment will be great. My old friends, the Black Forest Band, who perform all week at the Concordia Club, will be perâ€" forming and the folkdance group Tegernsee from Bavania will be entertaining us as well On Thursday evening, you can attend the Miss Oktoberâ€" fest Pageant at the Centre In The Square or enjoy the proâ€" duction relaxing at home watching CKCO TV. Jack Peterson, the Chair of this event for many years, told me the competition will be steep to determine who the ambassador for 1998 Oktoberfest will be. Miss Oktoberfest makes numerous appearances at variâ€" ous ceremonies, festballs, famâ€" ily and cultural events, hospitals, and seniors‘ homes, and she will participate in over 60 school presentations. The challenge for the judges is to OKTOBERFEST PREVIEW choose the young lady who will best present the ideals of our Festival in the coming weeks The Official Opening Cereâ€" monies of 1998 KW Oktoberâ€" fest take place at the Kitchener Civic Square on Friday, Oct. 9, from 11:30 a.m. tol p.m. The Honourable Al Palladini, Provincial Minister of Ecoâ€" nomic Development, Trade & Tourism, will be joining Presiâ€" dent Peter Eichinger and many other dignitaries at the official tapping of the first keg that symbolizes the beginning of our nineâ€"day Festival. Enterâ€" tainment will include threeâ€" time Grammy winner, Walter Ostenak, the folkdance group Tegernsee from Bavaria, and from southâ€"west Germany, the Meeraner Band. If you can join us, it is a great way to kick off our 30th anniversary celebraâ€" tions. While you are in downtown Kitchener for the ceremonies, drop into the HANS HAUS on Benton Street for any lastâ€" minute ticket needs, a calendar of events or a souvenir pin to add to your collection. Sunday, Oct. 11, you can attend a breakfast and have a great afternoon viewing the fourth annual International Cavalcade of Bands held at University Stadium.
