Its not often that a team loses its top two scorers and stll feels confident that it can put the puck in the net. But with a number of key vetâ€" erans returning, the Waterloo Siskins think they have a good chance of filling up the net against any opposing team in the Midwestâ€" ern Junior B league. . The Siskins reached the finals of the league chamâ€" pionship last year, riding the coatâ€"tails of team captain Louis Goulet, the league‘s regular season MVP One of those players inhentâ€" ing the mantle of leadership is Jason Forget. The scrappy cenâ€" tre is expected to provide leadâ€" ership by example, and continue the torrid play he demonstrated in last year‘s playâ€" offs. But Goulet, along with bruis ing linemate Frank Kucher, were lost to graduation, leaving the Siskins looking to some key returnees for answers in the goal scoring and leadership department. Siskins‘ veterans should dominate Other key returnees are Sean Scott, Craig Bannister, Shawn Denomme, Jason Walsh, Jeremy Baran and Jeremy Sittler. Local product Adam Kennel has also returned from his tryâ€" out with Don Cherry‘s Missis sauga Bulldogs. Waterloo‘s own ‘Bad News Bears‘ The City of Waterloo might have their own entry in this movie hall of fame if the stery of the local Minor Peewee Triple "A" baseball team, which won a goldâ€" medal at the provincials in Cambridge last week, ever hits the silver screen. Team manager Rob Van Deemter was still stunned by the team‘s victory when he tried to explain the team‘s improbable run to the Ontario Baseball Association‘s title. Going into the tournament Chronicle Staff the team was 13â€"28â€"2, hardly the pedigree for a champion. The â€" underdog _ status remained after their first game when they were mercied by the Toronto Playground team, 18â€"6, to open the tournament. "We were coming from nowhere," he said. "We were the underdogs." The double knockâ€"out forâ€" mat meant that one more loss and they were out. But Van Deemter said the boys came together after the first loss, and won four straight to win the championship. "Instead of a team of individuâ€" als, they played as a team of 12," he said. That â€" miraculous _ tun included a coin toss that gave them a bye into the final, and a 6â€"3 defeat of hometown favorite Cambridge in the finale. "It was just a treat to stand back and watch the boys play the game," he said. "It‘s great to be a part of a team that just jells."
