Westvale achieves ‘Earth School‘ status Students and staff at Westâ€" vale public school in Waterloo had cause for celebration Friâ€" day â€" their‘s has been named the 86th school out of 4500 in Canada to reach Earth School status in the SEEDS Foundaâ€" tion Learners in Action proâ€" Under the direction of teacher George Masurkevitch and teaching assistant Lorâ€" raine Kuepfer, students achieved Earth School status by completing 1,000 environâ€" mental projects. Projects included planting over 200 shrubs, planting enough tulips to represent each student and establishing an outdoor classâ€" room. The students have also been in touch with other Earth School across the country. The SEEDS (Society, Enviâ€" ronment and Energy Developâ€" ment â€" Studies) Canada Foundation is the national sponsor and source of the Learners in Action (Green School) program. The proâ€" gram encourages students to undertake projects which enhance the environment. Stuâ€" dents and schools receive recognition as they proceed in the program to become a Green School at 100 projects, a Jade School at 250 projects, and an Emerald School at 500 projects.
