Still, her musical roots run deep, and there‘s a rustic charm about her that is quite affecting. Now several albums into an increasingly sucâ€" cessful career, she may have finally delivered on the promise of previous releases. Blue Roses From The Moon is a delight from start to finish. Her influences remain deep in the heart of her home state, and she even puts a warm spin on the Bobby Fuller Four classic, I Fought The Law. And just to add a bit of rock and roll history to the proceedings, Sonny Curtis, the song‘s writer, makes an appearance. So does Curtis‘ band the Cricketts, who used to back up a guy by the name of Buddy Holly. The former appears to have been taken care of, and the smart money says even Toronto‘s braindead radio stations will find a spot for Steel Teeth on their stodgy playlists. That‘s because Steel Teeth is about as radioâ€" triendly as Change Of Meart gets without comâ€" promising the adventurousness that has long been their signature. Various influences and styles continue to abound, but they all come together in a tight, powerful, straightâ€"shead effort that just may be their best shot at that elusive commercial acceptance. This Toronto band has kicked around and been kicked around since the early ‘80s. Despite critical acclaim and the admiration of peers, they haven‘t had much luck finding a home â€" with a label or on the Griffithâ€"delivers with Blue Roses Blue Roses From The Moon m Help us find a cure. ______W* _ L. giew. in MORD Oe ieree The aftertaste left by this New York band‘s drillâ€"instructor approach to hard rock hasn‘t always been a palatable one. Least so for anyâ€" one whose favorite rock flavors don‘t include such ingredients as repetition, intensity, unremitting volume and an avantâ€"garde bent. All delivered with surgical precision and the dis cipline of a Green Beret boot camp. On the other hand, Helmet maestro and riffâ€" master Page Hamilton has brought some much needed immediacy to a genre that pumps out more than its share of standardâ€"issue guitar riffs. And ljs vision of what hard rock should be is as focused as ever on Helmet‘s fourth, and arguably best, album. Aftertaste is rock at its most linear and adrenalized, 13 rhythmically precise slabs of metal so crisp, shiny and heavy they make Metallica sound like folkies. And just to add some genuine blues flavor to the mix, John Lee Hooker joins the band for a rousing version of his dassic Boom Boom. brings to the proceedings. Things tend to wane when the band gets bogged down in a pedestrian funkâ€"rock groove.
