' Pension plan changes attack working poor The federal Liberal‘s changes to the Canada Pension Plan further demonstrates the Chretien government‘s elitist bias. Not only are most of the cuts to payments directed at those least able to afford alternate pension plans, but CPP premiums are the most regressive form of taxation. Since they are paid only on the Why close existing schools only to build new ones? The Board says if they do not use the money they will lose it. When they could transport children to an inner school for a fraction of the cost, is this the best use of our precious Ministry of Education dollars? Northdale was recently renovated at great expense; to close the thoolvflhw"lhdw-h‘w"yn Sandowne is already overcrowded. Why close a school which is operating at capacity to accommodate children in portables? Once again our children get the message that they do not seem to fit anyâ€" The Waterloo County Board of Education‘s Waterloo School Accommodation Review examines the closure of Brighton or Northdale schools. As the parent of a child who is bussed to Northdale school, I am concerned about the possible closure of Northdale for many reaâ€" sons. in the short life of our Davenport subdivision our children have been sent to four different schools. Those making $70,000 will experience only a two per cent increase. Those making $100,000 or more will experience negligible increases of barely one per cent or less. A much fairer solution to the anticipated underfunding of the CPP would have been to introduce a progressive scale for premiâ€" ums. By removing premiums on the first $12,000, then gradually increasing it to 20 per cent on income in excess of $100,000, the government could have achieved the same increase in funding while actually reducing payments from the working poor, mainâ€" taining payments from middleâ€"income earners and making the wealthy pay their fair share. But this Liberal government has never been interested in fairness or in helping ordinary Canadians. They are much too busy rewardâ€" ing their friends on Bay Street and helping chartered banks rack up record profits. You can‘t expect anything different from a governâ€" ment whose finance minister owns a company that evades Canadian taxes by sailing its ships under a foreign flag.
