This year. l have yet to hit a bucket of balls, and to know me is to realize how embarrassed 1 am to say that. In that vein, | make the following observations, as always purely personal, as | anxiously await spring freedom day. *23 years ago. as a kickâ€"stam to one of the most glorious summers of my life, a group of us from Wilfrid Laurier University spent Victoria Day weekend at a friend‘s cortage * While the long weekend is usually the time to aggresâ€" sively pursue the perfect lawn and garden. for the past half dozen years or so, we‘ve had ours prepped and ready to go in early May. The other day, I did happen to notice that the ice Noe has melted in the bird bath, and that something green was surfacing in our flower bed. Of course it was a weed, but in these troubled times, who can be choosy? A couple of birds were also snarking about the frozen food in the feeder, but who had the chance last October to clean it out before the first snowfall? * One of my favorite spring pastimes, and yes, maybe 1 have to get a life, is emptying everything out of the garage and cleaning it from top to bottom. I pick a nice warm day to do this. And 1 will again, this year. For now, however, the winter road sait, sleds and snow shovels remain. * Subsequent to that cleaning, it‘s garage sale time. We may yet have one. if the garage gets cleared before the next long weekend. 1 have seen evidence of exactly four such sales so far this year. 1 believe many more are being held, likely in basements or at the back of houses where the wind doesn‘t whip at 75 klicks per hour. Things are so days. * Again, May 24 weekend is the benchmark for rotating the closet, bringing out the shorts and tâ€"shirts and bright summer colors. Late Sunday night, for the third time this "spring" we went down to the basement to retrieve winter coats and boots for schoolyard play. You laugh at this? Monday, it snowed twice during the afternoon. The temperature was plus 9. All theories on "conspiracies to drive us nuts" are encouraged and should be addressed to the columnist above.
