ronment, public perception plays a huge role. But as we said in our feature sectuion last year, equally important to us is the pndckhbythoscswns.btsilmmdscmcuyoumed top of class. Throughout the year, we noticed that many Reader‘s Choice winners proudly displayed that banner in their advertising, at their cash register, all over the place. Thats exactly what we want to achieve, a demonstration of pride in excellence, and a motivation to continue to meet those standards and even move the bar higher. That‘s not to say our survey didn‘t need some fineâ€"tuning, We asked you for your favorite bus driver, and several readâ€" ers went beyond the local focus to nominate Jackie Glea son‘s Ralph Kramden. You had no problem naming your favorite golf course, but few listed favorite golf hole. Maybe because when you‘re a hacker like me, the holes are all a blur of double bogeys. Some were confused over the disâ€" tnction between live theatre and theatre, and a battle royale was narrowly averted about which hot dog vendor was which in front of Waterloo Town Square. And so we did make some adjustments, had a few deleâ€" tions, and added or reâ€"defined categories, to, as Alex Trebek may urge, provide more specific information. The thrust of the survey remains the same, however. And that‘s to create a feeling about the fabric of our community, and offer praise and recognition where deserved. We know our readers are more than ready and willing to offer up their opinions, you proved it last year and no doubt will do so again. in fact, thanks in part to our urging, a number of you created your own categories, including some (gulp!) that were fit t print and you may recognize on page 14. We‘ll insert the survey for three weeks running, and the deadline to respond is May 8. We‘ll then make our draw for thzwyuohl'vï¬u-s:aaw-dlâ€"l-qphe- winners, and wrap it all up in our second annual Reader‘s Choice publication in early June. So get the pen or pencil out, and the thinking cap on. Your vote is important to us, and even more important to those We were always cognizant of the need to treat the publiâ€" cumoldnrsuhssuiadxhgï¬#kmm and what yon».vr like, and why. However. as the survey responses rolled in, ‘and rolled in, and contunued to roll in, it quickly became evident we had !q)peqmam:yowds'nlodudyhmhmm 1 Reader‘s Choice started out as a strictly fun project for us, giving our readers a chance to known, bring to light a overâ€" looked treasure or reinforce the popularity of high profile facilities, stores and services. You know what it‘s like. Four or five folks standing at the office water cooler tying to decided where to go for lunch and why PE mmminks got a puny ‘\Vclunlouy&hnb‘a-hphz.' & "Oh, and the desserts across town at their restaurant are worth the drive alone." â€" Not an easy consensus. In fact, commercials have been done about our inability to make up our minds.
