e j | *For the sense of commuâ€" ‘ | nity fostered at our church, especially (hmpgh the words of Fr. Mark Curtis, so elo quently urging us to not get caught up in the frenzy of the season, but to instead. relax, step back, and relish the true meaning of Christmas *For those who give so much of themselves at Christmas, to volunteer to aid the needy, coâ€"ordinate food, toy and clothing drives, do anything to lend a hand or share an extra dollar when they have it. Especially those who, if you ever asked them why they do what they do, would answer with a blank stare, as if to say, "I don‘t need a reason, it‘s simply the right thing to do." *For the times | overhear comments in the malls like I did the other day, a women talking to her husband. "Cmon, hes only a 10â€"yearâ€"old kid, he‘s suffered enough pain this year Can‘t you spring for five bucks so he can have one Christmas present‘" If that doesn‘t give one perspective, what does? Chnstmas 1995 is upon us, and at the Campbell houseâ€" hold, there is the usual amount of hustle, bustle, and mertiâ€" ment In everything that is great about the holiday season, howâ€" ever, no one in our family has lost sight of the fact that by accident as much as design, in many ways the world is a colder and crueler place. In a society increasingly defined by the haves and haveâ€"nots, this year more than ever we should make every attempt to foster goodwill, to look for ways to ease the burden of others, to put aside differences and to look towards the halfâ€"full glass. And to give thanks For many, that is easier said than done, But 1 have much to give thanks for, at a time in f |_ my life when 1 feel more 3 9 | _ blessed than ever before. It } THXI‘ s LIFE 1 sve‘ems 1 say that most every ‘ year, but ‘tis true, true, true | r" | And so, in wishing all of you, M from my family and myself, a ‘ ; ‘ holiday season filled with joy â€" IFa # and happiness, I do give in < d thanks, and celebrate the seaâ€" ‘ E &5 son with these thoughts and . Abae | _ blessings *For my coâ€"workers, who have gone to the wall for this newspaper and this organization this year, in a tough, tough environment. True character, true grit +And again, for those without meaningful work or purâ€" pose, that your lives may be guided by your resourcefulness and your path charted by favorable turns. *A wish of peace for those who will be spending their first Chnstmas with someone‘s familiar face missing from the table. We have walked that way before, and got through it by sharing laughter and tears from wondrous past tradiâ€" trons, and forging new ones *A similar wish for those afflicted by illness, despair, loneâ€" liness, or whose dreams have taken an undesired course, something positive and permanent to build new hopes on *For those who have maintained courtesy and class throughout the season, showing patience in times of stress, giving up parking spots or a spot on the bus to others, lend: ing a quarter to the child in need at the cash register, doing the nice things that give a warm feeling, without expecting anything in return *For those simply brimming with holiday spirit, song and cheer at work or at home, who refuse to let the Scrooges and Grinches prevail, and whose indomitable spirit is so infectious, the rest of us simply marvel at it. *For our families, immediate, extended, nonâ€"traditional, in whatever shape or form, for giving us the feeling of belonging, and the knowledge that yes, someone cares. _ *In the most personal sense, more and more each year, for my wife Beth, and our three beautiful sons, whose love, whose laughter, whose lives, 1 live for. l am truly blessed, and 1 celebrate each year the most wonderful gift of all. Merry Christmas, everyone.
