° LETTERS E 1 was very disappointed > with the article written by g_ Sandy Baird on November 14, x regarding the Kitchener Farmâ€" 9 ers‘ Market. In reading his W comments, l start to wonder O when he was last at the Kitchâ€" % ener Farmers‘ Market or for 4 that matter, the downtown. 1 2 find his remarks very narrowâ€" é minded and uncreative; 35 destructive at best. It certainly is much easier to sit back and §cnuc1zc than to get involved T and become part of the soluâ€" _z tion. % The Farmers Market has been quite successful in its efforts of rejuvenation. There has been an increase in shopâ€" pers and an increase in venâ€" dors and the market has had some renovations done that brightened up the market and gave it a new atmosphere. I certainly have noticed a differâ€" ence and the many people that 1 talk to have remarked about the improvements. Comments were narrowminded and destructive 1 would also like to question Mr. Bairds‘ constant maligning of the downtown business disâ€" trict and the surrounding neighborhoods. In my six years working for the Kitchâ€" ener Downtown Business Association, 1 have had the pleasure of working with some of the strongest, most cohesive communities 1 have ever encountered and 1 have lived in many cities across Canada. They are a commuâ€" nity in its truest sense. There are many people involved in revitalization efforts in the Downtown, beginning with the neighborhoods surâ€" rounding the downtown, the Kitchener Downtown Business Association and all their volunâ€" teers, the five members of the Mayor‘s Task Force, who thought enough of the opporâ€" tunities, the future and the benefits of a healthy downâ€" town to spend five months of their personal lives developing the Mayor‘s Task Force Report, the city staff who have embraced the importance of their assistance in developing the future of the downtown and of course, the City Counâ€" cil, who has approved and acted upon the recommendaâ€" tions of the Mayor‘s Task Force. The downtown was not responsible for the causes of decline (development of the suburban malls and the two recessions that have hit the country over the last two *$20,995 based on 1996 Fâ€"150 "XLS" 4x2 regular f.‘. long M\«l‘bau with PE.P.
