PAGE 4 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, MY.WTâ€. 1995 "I know we‘ve had a great summer," Beth remarked, "but can you believe it‘s almost over? I wonder how many people have done all the things they wanted to do this summer. And if they realize that there are only two weeks left to do it." Her comments got me to thinking. With Labor Day weekend so early in September, yes, the end of "fun" summer, the invisible wall between "carefree" and "back to the real world", is definitely looming. Have I done all the things I wanted to do this summer? The answer "no" somehow comes to mind. Now, not to fret, I have plans to accomplish some of the following before returning to the serious grind, but examining my list, I have doubts about scoring 100 per cent. Just off the top of my head, here are a few things still lingering on the "to do" list. What‘s your list look like. Take the Christmas lights down, Hey Beth, this is my list, not your list for me. Go to the CNE Almost for sure won‘t accomplish this one. Last Sunday, I got stuck in a traffic jam where everyone else was heading for the CNE, though I wasn‘t. It was a mustâ€"go happening during my childhood, but I betieve [ sit it out until the boys are old enough to accompany each other on the stomachâ€"churning rides. Have a banana split Whoa, believe me, I‘ve tried nearly every other frozen treat at Dairy Queen this summer, but it dawned on me the other night that I still haven‘t indulged in the original royal treat. Tough assignment, but I believe I‘m up to it. Wash my car Ah, who needs it? Used to love getting up on a hot Sunday mornâ€" ing and cooling down by shooting spray skyward while scrubbing the whitewalls. But now, it takes about three minutes to nip through the touchâ€"free, and I don‘t get depressed uncovering all the scratches the kids have made while, ahem, carefully wheeling their bikes to the garage. Dip my toes in a Great Lake We all know how many Great Lakes there are, and how many are fit for swimming in. But someday before Labor Day, we‘re going to Grand Bend to frolic in the waves, tiptoe over the hot sandy beach, buy a double scoop cone, and yes, probably purchase an item from a designer shop on the main drag. I‘m already pracâ€" tising for the junket, by blaring my car radio down University Ave., hoping pedestrians will rave at the cool dude in the too hot Corsica. With the three wheelcovers. But the oh so white whitewalls. Stain the deck It‘s got that tired look to it, and while this summer goal will shock even my closest family members, it was my intention to get it done. OK, so I didn‘t. Boo hoo. Nobody said life‘s fair. Go to Centre Island Just love that ferry ride, and now, with Centreville providing the kids with such great amusements, it‘s a wonderful day away from it all, but also right near it all. We‘ll be going, though I‘ll pass on sticking my toes in this Great Lake. Cut the grass both ways Do you ever notice that the folks with the great lawns take the time to cut the grass both ways, leaving this neat squareâ€"ish patâ€" tice in recent years, because, well, we haven‘t had the greatest of lawns. But it‘s rallied well this summer and I might just get around to it again. Go to a Saturday night movie downtown Matinees? Been there, done that, you‘ve read about it. But all summer long, Beth and I haven‘t been to a movie downtown, or Uptown for that matter. Maybe, just maybe. Go golfing with Beth Her threat is if we don‘t go this summer, her brand new clubs may never get used. Now, can‘t leave that threat hanging over my head all winter long. We‘ll find time. Well, that‘s me, what about you? Listen to the Beach Boys What is summer without cueing up some Beach Boy tunes? I‘ll make a note of putting their Greatest Hits CD at the front of the The end of summer is a real bummer Glancing almost in disbelief at the calendar, Beth and I sat down Sunday night and mapped out our game plan for the upcoming The Fairway Group 240 Holiday Inn Dr., Unit F, Cambridge, On.
