Over the past 6 months, the Launer community has helped in the lives of many women and children in Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo. Through support in food sales and drives, ‘losing their cents‘ and losing their heads at a benefit concert, Laumer has contributed over $1,000 to their community by helping a local charity â€" Anselma» House The Battle of Waterioo on the issue of mobile signs is rapidly drawing to a head. On one side of the "thin red line" are the sign companies who are lobbying for an increase in the present 60â€"day rental limit to 180 days and on the other side are ordinary citizens who feel these advertising devices are ugly and constitute visual pollution. City staff freely admit that they do not have the manpower to properly police the present bylaw and of the 165 signs situated within city limits, only three have the proper permits. On March 22, 1995, an informal meeting, chaired by Councillor Craig Hoddle, was held at city hall. Turnout was poor and the City subsequently posted a small survey form on page 39 of the April 5 issue of the Waterloo Chronicle. The survey asked citizens to vote on only three options, namely, 60 days, 120 days or 180 days. The cutâ€"off date for reply is April 15, 1995. These forms did not require a signature and there is of course, no guarantee that ballot stuffing will not occur. Secondly, no option was given for less than 60 days. Citizens who did not notice this survey or who have strong feelings on the subject are well advised to conâ€" tact their respective ward councillors at 747â€"8784 or leave a brief message on the answering machine at Mike McKean‘s office at 747â€"8794. Launrier continues to prove its uniqueness and generosity through acts such as these, showing just how great a school it really is. Again, with Anselma House in debt and an increasing number of women seeking shelter, any contribution is meaningful. Launier‘s contribution through Alpha Omega is cherished greatly as they & have expressed to me many times. I hope that this also shows what a small organizaâ€" tion can do for a local charity. To give back to the comâ€" munity you are living in can only help you and everyone in the end. Alpha Omega is proud to have Anselma House as its main charity and will continue throughout the years to support it to the utmost of our ability On behalf of the women and children of Anselma House, thank you Launer, thank you Waterloo and thanks to everyone who has helped make a difference Anselma House is Alpha Omega sorority‘s main charity. Our sorority is only a yearâ€"andâ€"aâ€"half old. We have sisters that are volunteers at the shelter who continuously express their joy and fulfillment they value from helping the shelter. This past year was our first full year of raising funds for Anselma House and we were therefore uncertain as to the goals we could reach through our peers and fellow members of the Laurier community. Surpassing $1,000 in funds raised is a pleasant surprise and by far an accomâ€" plishment. amount of women and children seek refuge there, funds and supplies have been depleting rapidly and they are desperately in need of any support they can Sonia Tan Alpha Omega Charity Commissioner 1994â€"1995 Mon.â€"Wed. 10â€"6:00, Thurs.â€"Fri. 10â€"8:00,, Sat. 10â€"5 30"x36"x16" Reg. 84 95 451 Phillip St., Waterloo (between Columbia & Albert) 884â€"6490 For your convenience, we are 12 x7z x12° Reg. 49 95 3995 105 Lexington Rd., #3 _ 200 Lorraine Ave., # Waterloo 725â€"1920 Kitchener 744â€"6675 99 Weber St. W #3 Kitchener 7444643 7 Grainbread 5 Grainbread Light Ryebread Sunflower â€" Yogurtbread Organ 3 Grain r’f“} Happy Ziaste‘?é?;ég Hotcross buns * Enasterbunnies Easterbread _ ALL 3 LOCATIONS j 7 Grainbread * Old Bavarian * Glutentreebread Looking forward to seeing you!
