Sure, the Europeans brought their Benz and their Jags, yet these vehicles remained a relatively small portion of the luxury segment. This all changed in the 1980s. Yuppies making money hand over fist demanded automobiles that told everyone they, too, had made it. Yet, typical to their generation, they wanted to be different from their parents, so they turned to Mercedes, Jaguar and that venerable yuppie wagon, the BMW. The Japanese quickly recognized this new market and before anyone knew what was happening, Lexus, Acura and Infiniti were setting sales records like nothing before. || t C The North American manufacturers made several Since most of us can remember, Lincoln and Cadillac have been the premiere marquees for luxury cars in North America. The engine is transverse mounted and, for the first time in a Lincoln, is hooked up to the front wheels via a new nonâ€"synchronous shifting fourâ€"speed automatic overdrive transaxle. That‘s a fancy attempts to meet this new challenge, yet most were halfâ€" hearted. We all remember GM‘s illâ€"fated Cadillac Allante and Buick Reatta? It wasn‘t until GM built the totally new Seville STS that a North American car was able to meet the Japanese and European challenge. Ford was a little slower in introducing new products to this market. Last year, we finally got the allâ€"new Lincoln Mark VIII, an allâ€"star in every right that has won back many luxury car drivers. Ford‘s second product to take on the new competition is the allâ€"new 1995 Lincoln Continental. With the new DOHC InTech Vâ€"8 engine and a luxurious interior, this new Contiâ€" nental is well on its way to placing Lincoln back on top of the heap. 485 King St. North Waterloo, Ontario (519) 885â€"5090 Â¥q * Bâ€"K MOTORS Drive safely.
