He stated his thesis as follows: that a representative democracy in Canada has not worked and is getting worse all the time. We should move to a direct democracy. a He stated that the people are just as smart and in some cases, smarter than the politicians and that the people should decide on important issues. I don‘t It is true that some of the MPs are not always fully aware of all the issues but the majority of the MPs are. The majority of the Canadian public, about 64 per gives the "headlines" of a story and doesn‘t give enough detail to form an accurate opinion. So if the people were to decide on important issues, they would be making an uninformed decision. But I do feel that the people should be able to decide on moral issues. Issues like capital punishment, that should be made by the people. A referendum should be taken on issues like these. The people have a right to decide on moral issues, not technical ones. ‘They just don‘t know all the details to make an informed decision. Another statement Sagel made was that many politicians are corrupt. This statement is not true. It is a huge stereotype and generalization. There are politicians who work hard and are truthful. He said that they all favor a certain group. Sure some do but once again, not all do. He also stated that there is no way to get rid of MPs once they are in. But there is a way: don‘t reâ€"elect them. It seems to me that he has no faith in our sys floor model sets. A person reading his column would come away with a negative, oneâ€"sided view. T feel that Canada should move towards a more delâ€" egate form of government. But that has its drawhacks as well.
