PAGE 8 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23, 1994 Hats off to our twin cities for hosting the 1994 Scott Tournament of Hearts Ladies Canadian Curling Championship! Thanks to the organizers and many volunteers, the event was well run and brought in a lot of revenue for our cities. However, the main concern for the week was, yes, the PARKING! A lot of seniors attended the games, walking from the arena bubble parking lot or near Erb Street, even though daily draws were not sold out. The main question asked was, "Why would Waterico build such a"beautiful complex but provide inadequate parking for special events?" _ R What great news that the Kâ€"W Granite Curling Club is proposing to build a new complex in Waterloo! Waterioo had grown extensively over the last 10 years and curling is becoming a popular sport for all ages. Currently, many residents drive out of the city limits to curl. Affordable membership fees for the new facilâ€" ity will ensure the curling future of Kitchenerâ€"Waterâ€" I have recently read articles in the Waterloo Chroniâ€" cle and Kâ€"W Record concerning Waterloo Councillor Rob Brown‘s dismay and frustration about the ploys and games of some of his fellow councillors (in which I was included). Brown is a university professor, however that does not mean he has cornered the market in intelligence or community stewardship. [ _ In the ‘91 election, many business people â€" (Morty)Taylor, (John) Summers, (Bruce) McKenty, (Tricia) Siemens and I ran because we felt Waterloo Hoddle‘s had enough of Brown‘s attitude Grow. They feed it to deal with the many probâ€" day. Most however, know when to turn it off. lor Brown doesn‘t know when to turn it off and never ceases to let us know that he knows best and that his decisions are ultimately always flawless. I personally find him arrogant and condescending and even though I am not formally educated, 1‘d ?wmfluflcfinh&tq‘iflhfim Several months ago, when residents of Westvale Pond were complaining about the stench and level of water in a retention pond, Councillor Brown strolled gingerly one Sunday by the pond and concluded at the ensuing meeting, that he didn‘t see a problem at all. Here‘s a Waterloo public official who was willing to assume that, because of his brilliance, he knew betâ€" ter than residents who had put up with, and lived beside, this chronic problem for 14 years. Now that‘s ego and a ploy to boot. To say that the former council was a great council, not divisive, and that each member was an excellent community steward is not something with which I could easily disagree. (Mary Jane) Mewhinney, (Lynne) Woolstencroft and (Blake) Hull are all fine representatives and good people but this doesn‘t mean that they weren‘t political at times or had certain differently than this council. Unlike them however, Councillor Brown acknowledges the fact that if you vote against his will, you‘ve made a bad vote and. his treatment of you as an individual will be reflected If you can‘t stand the heat...get out of the cafeteria. I doubt he‘s seen a kitchen in years. Ontario Registration #1283912 needed to contact by phone, local businesses in order to confirm and/or collect basic information.
