In addition to his head coaching positions, Cartlidge has been appointed to the coaching staff of both Provincial and Nationa! Teams on numerous occasions. He coached Ontario Provincial teams in 1974, ‘75, ‘76, ‘77, ‘88 and ‘89. He worked as a coach with the Canadian National team in 1975 (to the British Nationals), 1978 (a tour of Britain, Holland and France), 1983 (the Pan Pacific Games), 1989 (the World Cup at Indianapolis) He has coached swimmers who have qualified for many international competitions including the FISU Wally Delahey, the Director of Athletics at the University of Waterloo, announces that the new Swim Coach and Aquatic Director at the University of Waterloo will be Brian Cartlidge. Brian will be returning to the University where he obtained his undergraduate training and where he previously coached at the interuniversity level. Cartlidge was a swimme; at UW in the late 1960‘s and early 1970‘s while studying for his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He was appointed the head coach in swimming at the University of Waterloo for 1975 and 1976. He was also coaching the Kitchenerâ€"Waâ€" terloo "Y" Aquatic Club during this time. Cartlidge moved to the London "Y" Aquatic Club in 1976, as their head coach and held that position until 1984. In 1985, he moved to Winnipeg, Man., where he was appointed the head coach of the University of Manitoba Bisohs. While in Winnipeg he also coached the Manitoba Marlin Club team. In 1988, he was appointed to the coaching staff at the Nepean Club (Ottawa), where he was employed prior to returning to Waterloo. Brian replaces Reema Abdo, who held the head coaching position at W aterloo for one year. Reema Abdo resigned from Waterloo to resume training as a fullâ€"time triathlon competitor. She hopes to compete in the World Championship slated for the Huntsville, Ontario area in September of this year.
