Those attending included Larry Marsland, representatives of the Knox congregation, the Waterloo Horticultural Society, local veterans‘ groups and the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC). If the agreement is approved, Marsland would pay up to $35,000 for the relocation of the cenotaph to city lands in the area of the Mueller chimney. The company would also release the city from the clause in the original 1969 Marsland land purchase agreement requiring the city to provide 200 parking spaces within 500 feet of the Marsland Centre for 50 years, and would allow most of the 135 spaces in the structure to be used as free city parking after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Council will vote tonight on whether to approve a $1, 25â€"year lease agreement.with Marsland Centre Ltd. dated July 13 which would allow the company to build a twoâ€"level parking garage for its tenants on the cityâ€"owned cenotaph site. Cenotaph fate to be decided tonight The impending closure of Seagrams and Labatt, combined with the 1990 closing of Sunarâ€"Hauserman and the uncertainty over the future of Canbar has left the Uptown area with a string of four huge Mayor Brian Turnbull is hoping the broad policies included in his conceptual paper outlining the reshaping of the Uptown area over the next few years will become as widely known and widely accepted as the city‘s ‘Environment First! policy.
