As usual, action films were popular and Jeff Speakman made his debut in THE PERFECT WEAPON. Steven Segal and Jean Claude Van Damme bombarded us with more of the same. For my money, QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER, ONE GOOD COP, GOODFELLAS, ROBIN HOOD â€" PRINCE OF THIEVES, DIE HARD 2 and V. |. WARSHAWSâ€" KI are worth the price of admission. Kevin Costner‘s DANCES WITH WOLVES is also top rate entertainment. Suspense/Thrillers are always popular and ‘91 had its share. From Julia Roberts in SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY to Jodie Foster in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS to Kathy Bates‘ Oscar winning performâ€" ance in MISERY, women shone in these their parts. And for the men Michael Keaton in PACIFIC HEIGHTS, Sean Connery in THE RUSSIA HOUSE, and Harrison Ford in PRESUMED INNOCENT. Disney reminded us that the magic is still there with the release of THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER, FANTASIA, WHITE FANG, THE JUNGLE BOOK and ROBIN HOOD. I still enjoy watching them, and my youngest daughter plays them over and over. Several movies caught my attention that would be called critically acclaimed yet not particularly box office smashes. EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, STRAIGHT OUT oOF BROOKLYN, METROPOLIâ€" TAN, WILD AT HEART, MILLER‘S CROSSING and QUuEEnN‘S LOGIC fit this category. Each is enjoyable for its unique approach to filmâ€" mabio 2 making. Speaking of laughs, there‘s the alwaysâ€"funny Leslie Nielson returning as Frank Drebin in NAKED GUN 2% â€" THE SMELL OF FEAR, which is loaded with sight gags and slapstick humor. Billy Crystal and his dry sarcastic delivery make CITY SLICKERS a mustâ€" sa?‘ for comedy lovers. And I‘d be remiss if | didn‘t mention HOME Al ANIE ALONE. 1 o td on ce ce en m mt ce na L. Arnold Schwarzenegger hit pay dirt twice and in two different genre. TERMINATOR 2 â€" JUDGEMENT DAY tops the list of action movies for the year with a stunning presentation of special effects and pulsating action. KINDERGARTEN COP is an entertaining mix of action and comedy which Arnold pulls off quite well. HAPPY NEW YEAR! As the new year starts, it‘s always nice to look back and reflect on the months gone by. This year being no exception, 1 will attempt to select my favorite videos of 1991. And since | find it somewhat judgmental to rate movies on a scale of one to 20, I‘ll just list the movies | feel deserve being mentioned.
