His stylish, economical playing has embellished the work of everyone from Robert Gordon and the Sex Pistols to John Cale and Bryan Ferry. His songs don‘t allow much room for guitarâ€"hero flash, and that‘s obviously the way he prefers it. Unlike far too many quitarists whose playing is forever longâ€"winded, Spedding‘s axe never runs out of breath, even though it would be nice if it did once in a while. It‘s the only quibble | have with yet another fine album from this underâ€" rated rocker. Peterson plays guitar, keyâ€" boards, bass, drums and trumpet, but it‘s the first two, especially his Hammond Bâ€"3 organ, that really stand out. He sticks to urban blues for the most part, occasionally mixing in soul and funk to spice up the proceedings. Not that Triple Play needs it. Peterson‘s guitar and organ alone make this set sizzle. The rest of Schubert Dip follows suit as EMF are careful not to deviate too much from the game plan. As flavors of the week go, Schubert Dip leaves a good taste.
