Meet the New Sex Pistols On The Block. These obnoxious little British punks (not in the musical sense of the term), who like to be tasteless for the sake of it, are part of the latest musical wave from Other than Jimmy Page, there probably isn‘t a more famous session rock guitarist than Chris Spedding. His stylish, economical playing has embellished the work of everyone from Robert Gordon and the Sex Pistols to John Cale and Bryan Ferry. Cafe Days is the eighth album (first released domestically here) of a lowâ€"key, but consistently impressive solo career. His songs don‘t allow much room for guitarâ€"hero flash, and that‘s obviously the way he prefers it. Unlike far too many quitarists whose playing is forever longâ€"winded, Spedding‘s axe never runs out of breath, even though it would be nice if it did once in a while. It‘s the only quibble | have with yet another fine album from this underâ€" rated rocker. Schubert Dip EMF Capitol [Thursday, September 5 7:00 pm $25.50 $22.50 presents This is a very impressive release from a multiâ€" talented blues artist. Peterson plays guitar, keyâ€" boards, bass, drums and trumpet, but it‘s the first two, especially his Hammond Bâ€"3 organ, that really stand out. He sticks to urban blues for the most part, occasionally mixing in soul and funk to spice up the proceedings. Not that Triple Play needs it. Peterson‘s guitar and organ alone make this set sizzle. CSFH‘s debut sounds like what might happen if Siouxsie left her Banshees and dropped in on a Motorhead rehearsal. This is easily one of the best hard rock albums released this year, and ranks with Girlâ€" school‘s Nightmare At Maple Cross as one of the best by an allâ€"female band. It‘s brought to you by the same production team that made Joan Jett a star. These gals love rock and roll, too, and they play it with unflagging fervor. Britain to reach these shores. The British rock press has yet to find a label for it, so let‘s just say it‘s hiphop pop you can dance to. EMF are the current rage, thanks to the hit single Unbelievable, an infectious ditty being played ad nauseum by Much Music. The rest of Schubert Dip follows suit as EMF are careful not to deviate too much from the game plan. As flavors of the week go, Schubert Dip leaves a good taste.
